Individual Therapy

What is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy at TALA Mental Health offers you a personal, one-on-one experience with one of our skilled and compassionate therapists dedicated to understanding your unique story.

How effective is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy can be incredibly effective for those facing personal struggles, offering a supportive and structured space for you to work through challenges. Our therapy process will help you navigate obstacles, develop coping strategies, and create positive, lasting change in areas that matter most to you—like relationships, inner peace, and healing from past experiences.

What to expect with Individual Therapy?

In individual therapy, you can expect a collaborative, nonjudgmental atmosphere where your unique needs are the focus. Whether you're looking to heal from past hardship or make changes in your current life, this process is tailored specifically to you.

What do sessions look like?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and can be held either through telehealth or onsite, providing flexibility to fit your needs.

EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR Therapy?

Think of your mind as a garden. Painful memories—especially trauma—are like stubborn weeds with deep roots. Traditional talk therapy can help us trim back these weeds, but if the roots aren’t addressed, they tend to grow back. EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, goes deeper.

EMDR gently helps us “unpack” and process these memories in a safe way, allowing your mind to work through them at a manageable pace. By addressing the root of the trauma directly, EMDR pulls these “weeds” out, creating space for lasting relief and healing.

How effective is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR has been proven highly effective for trauma recovery, relieving symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. It’s even been applied to help improve performance in areas like athletics, business, and relationships. Intensive EMDR therapy often provides faster relief than traditional trauma treatments, focusing fully on healing without frequent crisis management.


What to expect with EMDR Therapy?

EMDR therapy at TALA Mental Health is offered in an intensive format, designed to provide concentrated, focused healing in a shorter timeframe. Your treatment will begin with a pre-consultation interview to assess if EMDR is a good fit and to identify specific beliefs, emotions, or sensations to address. You’ll receive a personalized workbook for your treatment goals, guiding you before, during, and after each intensive session.

The program is customized to your needs and typically includes 3-5 sessions, lasting 1.5 to 3 hours each, which can be conducted in person or virtually.


What do EMDR Sessions Look Like?

EMDR intensives are offered in two formats to accommodate different schedules and needs:

  • 3-Day Schedule: Two (2) 90 minute sessions and one (1) 90 minute session, totaling to 4.5 hours over 3 days (only reserved for returning EMDR clients).
  • 5-Day Schedule: Five (5) 90-minute sessions, totaling 7.50 hours over 5 days.

Each session focuses on client-centered treatment, allowing for a thorough, supportive approach to your recovery journey.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy

What is Gottman Method Couples Therapy?

Gottman Couples Therapy is about deepening your understanding of each other, improving how you communicate, and restoring trust. Whether it’s premarital concerns, healing after infidelity, or tackling ongoing issues, our Gottman-trained therapists will provide you with guidance uniquely tailored to your relationship, so you can move forward with empathy, respect, and a renewed sense of connection.

How effective is Gottman Method Couples Therapy?

Backed by research, the Gottman Method is effective in helping couples strengthen their relationships. This approach will equip you and your partner with tools that will help you face life’s ups and downs together.

What to expect with Gottman Method Couples Therapy?

Expect a collaborative, structured process with a Gottman-trained couples therapist that addresses the root issues impacting your relationship. Through evidence-based techniques, we help you build trust, empathy, and a deeper, more supportive bond.

What do sessions look like?

Sessions are 75 minutes long and can be conducted through telehealth or in-person at one of our three offices at Belmont Shores, Naples, or Echo Park. Each session includes guided conversations and exercises focused on improving communication and building resilience in your relationship.

Discernment Counseling for Couples

What is Discernment Counseling?

Discernment Counseling is a specialized approach for couples facing the possibility of divorce or on the brink of a breakup. In this situation, one partner may be uncertain about continuing the relationship (“leaning out”), while the other wants to work on it (“leaning in”). This counseling method provides a structured space to gain clarity, explore options, and confidently decide on a path forward.

How Discernment Counseling Helps

If you and your partner are in a tough spot—whether due to ongoing conflicts, betrayal, or a sense that the relationship is falling apart—Discernment Counseling offers a chance to pause, reflect, and explore options. It’s not about solving marital issues directly, but rather assessing if the issues are solvable and if both partners are willing to work on them.

Key Goals of Discernment Counseling:

  • Clarity: Understand how you arrived at this difficult point in your relationship.
  • Options: Explore paths forward—working to restore the marriage, moving toward separation, or taking time to decide.
  • Confidence: Make a choice rooted in a deeper understanding of the relationship and its future.

What to Expect in Sessions

Sessions involve a blend of joint and individual conversations with a TALA Mental Health Discernment Counselor, focusing on each partner’s unique perspective. The counselor’s role is to respect each partner’s feelings and avoid assigning blame, while helping both individuals understand their roles in the relationship’s challenges.

  • Session Format: Maximum of 5 sessions, with the first session lasting 75-90 minutes and subsequent sessions at 75 minutes each.

  • Availability: Available to couples both in California and out of state. Contact us for a free 20-minute consultation.

Discernment Counseling is Not Suited For:

  • When one partner has already decided on divorce.
  • When one partner is being coerced into attending.
  • Situations involving risk of domestic violence.

Sandplay Therapy / Youth Therapy

What is Sand Play and Child/Youth Therapy?

As a parent, it’s difficult to see your child or teen struggling to express their emotions, acting out, or facing challenges that feel too big for them to handle alone. Sand Play and Child/Youth Therapy are specially designed to guide children and adolescents navigate and express their emotions, challenges, and inner world. We provide evidence-based methods to create a safe, supportive environment for young clients aged 3 to 17.


How effective is Sand Play and Child/Youth Therapy?

Sand Play and Child/Youth Therapy are highly effective in helping your child or teen build confidence, develop resilience, and manage emotions in a healthy way. Through hands-on, creative techniques, they’ll find an outlet for their emotions and learn skills to handle life’s ups and downs. These methods help improve emotional regulation, reduce stress, and even strengthen family bonds, allowing children to thrive with the support they need.

What to expect with Sand Play and Child/Youth Therapy?

Our work is collaborative. We start with an initial consultation that involves both you and your child to discuss their unique needs and challenges. Therapy may include one-on-one sessions with your child and occasional joint sessions with parents, allowing us to establish therapeutic goals together.

In each session, your child will engage in creative, interactive activities suited to their age and individual needs. Whether they’re working with sand, art, or other therapeutic tools, each method is chosen with care to help them feel safe and understood. Parent check-ins throughout therapy ensure that you stay involved, supported, and equipped with tools to help your child thrive.
